Chlordiazepoxide
Supervised alcohol withdrawal: ASAM sample symptom-triggered regimen
Adults · Oral capsules/tablets · Oral · US ASAM supervised protocol example; not an Indian product-label claim.
- Starting dose
- ASAM example: 25–100 mg orally when CIWA-Ar is ≥10; clinical severity and vulnerability determine the selected dose.
- Titration
- Example interval every 4–6 hours, with reassessment and additional doses only under the supervising protocol.
- Treatment range / target
- 25–100 mg per administration in this sample schedule.
- Maximum / limits
- No universal daily maximum is defined by this sample; escalating need or oversedation requires senior review, not unrestricted repeat dosing.
- Trial & duration
- Acute withdrawal only; fixed-dose examples taper over 3–5 days.
- Monitoring
- Trained observation of symptoms, alertness and respiration; reassess before dosing.
- Population & organ-function adjustments
- Reduce exposure or choose an alternative when hepatic impairment or frailty increases accumulation risk.
- Important cautions
- Not a home self-dosing schedule. CIWA-Ar is unsuitable for directing doses in delirium or unreliable communication.
Special populations & counseling #
Age, renal and hepatic function, pregnancy, breastfeeding, co-medication and the treatment indication require medicine-specific review. A general class statement cannot establish suitability for an individual.
Discuss the intended benefit, expected review plan, relevant adverse effects, driving or falls considerations, and how to obtain help. Stopping, switching or restarting requires the exact product’s instructions and clinical assessment.
